St Tammany Well Represented at LA All-Star Game
The Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star game took place Saturday in Shreveport at Independence Stadium with the West squad, earning a 24-14 victory over the East. Some St. Tammany Parish athletes and Archbiship Hannan Hawks’ coach Pat Lambert participated for the East squad. Lambert said it was a great experience for the players and they did a nice job representing themselves and their schools. Lambert said, “Our East team members practiced hard and competed having a pretty good outing. St. Tammany Parish kids did a tremendous job going against some of the best players in the state.
Fontainebleau receiver Hunter Bastian caught eight passes for 70 yards and rushed the ball once for seven yards. Archbishop Hannan receiver Daniel Hollander latched on to five receptions for 50 yards. East quarterback Manny Miles of University High, the son of LSU coach Les Miles, completed 21-of-30 passes for 177 yards with a 31-yard touchdown to Jazz Ferguson, an LSU Tiger commitment. Hahnville’s Ricky Preston earned the East MVP honors rushing for 67 yards and catching two passes for 16 yards. Miles was sacked eight times by the West defense with Notre Dames Nate Link coming up with four of them being named the West MVP. Hannan’s coach Lambert said Hannan Hawks’ linebacker Mitchell Morel did a nice job as the East’s long snapper, while Fontainebleau place kicker Tyler Olivier was solid kicking both extra points, handling kickoff and punting duties. Lambert also said Covington Lions’ free safety George Brister played well making a couple tackles. Congrats to our St. Tammany Parish players who made the trip to Shreveport, competing in the LHSCA East-West All-Star game having another opportunity to showcase their talent as deserving high school student-athletes.
