Mandeville’s Lady Skippers picked a big district opening victory Friday trimming the Fontainebleau Lady Bulldogs 2-1 at Sidney Theriot Stadium. Mandeville stands at 19-3 overall. Mandeville’s Dani Tyler gave the Lady Skippers a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute, which is how the half ended. Mandeville’s Mackenzie Manuel netted a goal in the 50th minute to put the Lady Skippers in the driver’s seat. Ten minutes later Fontainebleau answered with a goal from Diana Goff to make it 2-1. Mandeville named Rachel Scallan its top defender, who stepped up after they lost starter Aimee Leachman due to a knee injury early in the match. Fontainebleau named Larisa Vaccaro its top defender. Fontainebleau (8-5-3) travels to Northshore today, while Mandeville travels to SSA in a key district match with the 10-1-2 Doves.
