The St. Scholastica Academy Doves won their ninth consecutive match last night blanking the Cougars 4-0 in non-district play. SSA (14-1-2) has been on a roll since dropping their only match, being blanked by Dominican 1-0 back on Dec. 13. In last night’s match, the Doves had four different players net goals with Sami Vercher, Maggie Otillio, Allie Edwards and Courtney Robicheaux doing the honors. SSA is ranked No. 1 in Division I based on the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association poll. Dominican is No. 2 followed by Mt. Carmel. Three St. Tammany clubs hold down the next three positions with Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs ranked No. 4 followed by Mandeville’s Lady Skippers and the Northshore Lady Panthers. C. E. Byrd, St. Joseph’s, Lafayette and Acadiana round out the Top 10 in the LHSSCA poll. Members of the SSA Doves, the defending Division I state champs, and their head coach Mike Ortner, will be appearing with me tonight on Northshore Sports from 7-8, airing from our title sponsor, Mellow Mushroom.
