In what has become one of the better rivalries in girls’ soccer here on the Northshore, the Archbishop Hannan Lady Hawks topped the defending Division III state champion Pope John Paul II Lady Jaguars 3-1 yesterday at home. Pope John Paul II’s Christina Cutura put the Lady Jaguars up early netting a goal just 15 seconds into the match assisted by Natalie Pertuit. Hannan’s Theresa Goldkamp countered converting on a penalty kick to even things up at 1-1, which is how the half ended. Hannan’s Maia LeBlanc tallied off a corner kick by Lizzie Frank 15 minutes into the second half. Estefania Harvey collected a late breakaway goal to close out the scoring for the Lady Hawks against their cross town rival Lady Jaguars. Hannan’s Mikayla Boyer, an eighth grader, who returned from a serious thumb injury, came up with some nice saves. Archbishop Hannan moved to 18-4-1on the season and evened its district record at 4-4. PJP II (9-4-4) named Rachel Edwards its top defender. PJP II hosts Newman tomorrow in a 1 o’clock match.
Archbishop Hannan made it a sweep yesterday as the Hawks trimmed PJP II 4-3 spearheaded by Avery Ferrera, who netted a hat trick including a goal on a penalty kick. Hannan’s Payton Hudson tallied the Hawks’ other goal. Zack Broussard came up with six saves as the Hawks built a 4-1 halftime advantage. Hannan improved to 11-6-3 overall.
