The waiting is finally over for girls’ soccer teams from around the state as the Louisiana High School Athletic Association as the playoff brackets were released yesterday. Locally, we have nine St. Tammany Parish girls’ soccer programs that have earned the right to advance to the playoffs which begin this week. In Division I, the St. Scholastica Academy Doves (16-1-4), the defending Division I state champions, coached by Mike Ortner, are the No. 2 seed. The Doves will host one of their district rivals, the No. 31 seed Slidell Lady Tigers tomorrow night at 6:30. The Doves captured the district title and are focused on repeating as the state champs. The Mandeville’s Lady Skippers (25-5) coached by Sean Esker enter the playoffs as the No. 4 seed. The Lady Skippers will host No. 29 Zachary Thursday with a six o’clock start time at Sidney Theriot Stadium. Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs coached by Carly Hotard are a No. 7 seed and will host No. 26 Hahnville. The Fontainebleau-Hahnville opening round match is scheduled for Friday at 5:30. The Northshore Lady Panthers coached by Jeff Dunlap start their playoffs as the No. 9 seed and will host No. 24 Barbe.
In Division II girls’ state playoff soccer action, the No. 5 seed Lakeshore Lady Titans (11-7-5), coached by Wes Leake, host No. 28 A. J. Ellender Thursday at 5 o’clock. The Pearl River Lady Rebels seeded No. 31 advance to the playoffs and have a tough draw traveling to No. 2 seed St. Thomas More in Lafayette.
Three teams advance in Division III. The Northlake Christian School Lady Wolverines (14-1-4) coached by Nick Chetta are the No. 1 seed and will host No. 32 Evangel Christian. By the way Nick Chetta and his NCS Lady Wolverines and members of the boys’ playoff bound team will be appearing on Northshore Sports tomorrow from our title sponsor Mellow Mushroom in Covington. Northshore Sports airs from 7-8. In other Division III playoff pairings, the Archbishop Hannan Lady Hawks (18-5-1), coached by Jerry Kennedy and Pat Wells, start the playoffs as a No. 5 seed, and will host No. 26 Academy of Sacred Heart.
The Pope John Paul II Lady Jaguars (10-4-5), the defending Division III state champs, coached by J. B. Mahoney, are a No. 8 seed, and will host No. 25 Ouachita Christian this Friday in a 5 o’clock match at Lester Latino Field. Best of luck to all nine of our St. Tammany Parish girls’ soccer programs as they begin playoff action this week in hopes of advancing to chase possible state championships in the three Divisions.
Meanwhile, the LHSAA boys’ soccer playoff brackets will be released later today. We’ll take a look at those brackets tomorrow morning here on the Lake 94.7.
