The Louisiana High School Athletic Association girls state basketball playoff brackets have been released with a number of St. Tammany Parish schools earning the right to advance.
In class 5A, the Covington Lady Lions (21-6) enter the playoffs as the No. 13 seed, and will host district rival No. 20 Fontainebleau Lady Bulldog (21-9). Tonight’s Covington-Fontainebleau opening round game tips off at 7 o’clock. The teams split their District 6-5A games this season. Fontainebleau coached by first-year coach Mark Beason had the Lady Lions number in the first game winning 45-42. Covington coached by longtime mentor Christine Beauvais captured the second contest 56-44. The winner advances and will face the winner of No. 4 Destrehan and No. 29 East St. John. Mandeville’s Lady Skippers, seeded No. 17 travel, just missed earning the right to host an opening round playoff, travels to No. 16 Broadmoor.
The Ponchatoula Lady Green Wave, secured the No. 1 seed, and will host No. 32 Southwood in the opening round.
In Class 4A, the defending two-time state champion Salmen Lady Spartans, open as the No. 2 seed, and will host No. 31 Belaire.
In Class 2A, the Archbishop Hannan Lady Hawks (18-9), the No. 25 seed, travel to No. 8 Doyle. The opening round game is set for 6 o’clock tonight.
