The boys LHSAA basketball playoffs are gearing up this week with a number of St. Tammany Parish squads hoping for a deep run. In Class 5A, the Mandeville Skippers (22-9), enter the bi-district round as a No. 15 seed, and will host the No. 18 seed Jesuit Blue Jays. The Skippers and Blue Jays tip off Friday at 7 o’clock.
St. Paul’s Wolves (22-9), earned a No. 16 seed, and will square off with the McKinley Panthers out of Baton Rouge. The Wolves, coached by Phil Williams, are the home team, but due to the rule but McKinley, the visitors used the LHSAA 1,000-seat rule to force the game to be played at a neutral site. Friday night’s St. Paul’s-McKinley opening round playoff game will be played at Covington High with a 7 o’clock tip off. The voice of the Wolves, Preston Hammons, will be on hand as usual handling the public address duties, all be it in the stands at Covington High.
In Class 4A, the No. 1 seed Salmen Spartans (25-5), open playoff action Friday, hosting No. 32 Bastrop in a 6:30 tip.
In Class 2A, the Archbishop Hannan Hawks (22-6), the No. 9 seed, is hosting No. 24 Vinton. Friday’s tip is set for 7 o’clock.
In boys’ Class C basketball playoff action, the First Baptist Christian School Eagles, a No. 28 seed, travel to No. 5 Johnson Bayou out of Cameron.
