Local Basketball Playoffs Continue
LHSAA boys’ basketball playoff action takes to the court tonight with four St. Tammany Parish squads being involved in the action. In Class 4A, the No. 1 seed Salmen Spartans (25-5), coached by Jay Carlin, open play tonight hosting No. 32 Bastrop in a 7 o’clock tip off.
In Class 5A, two District 6-5A squads, the Mandeville Skippers and St. Paul’s Wolves, have advanced. Mandeville (22-9), the district champs, following a playoff seeding victory over St. Paul’s, enters playoff action as a No. 15 seed. The Skippers host No. 18 Jesuit tonight at 7 o’clock.
St. Paul’s also 22-9, is the No. 16 seed, hosting No. 17 McKinley out of Baton Rouge. The Wolves are considered the home team based on their better seed, however McKinley invoked the LHSAA 1,000-seat rule so the game will be played at a neutral site. Tonight’s St. Paul’s-McKinley bi-district round game will be played at Covington High tipping off at 7 o’clock.
In Class 2A, the Archbishop Hannan Hawks (22-6), the No. 9 seed, is hosting No. 24 Vinton, tipping off a 7. The Hawks, the District 8-2A champs, are led by Daniel Hollander, who is averaging a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds per outing. Hollander also averages five blocks and three steals. Noah Griffin also averages 15 points per game. Nick Daniel chips in with eight points per game to go with six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
In Class C, the First Baptist Christian School Eagles, the No. 28 seed, travels to No. 5 Johnson Bayou out of Cameron, tipping off at 6 o’clock tonight.
