The Salmen Spartans, the No. 1 seed, have advanced to the Class 4A state championship basketball game, by virtue of their 56-45 victory last night over No. 12 seed McDonogh #35 at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles. Salmen’s Corey Vinson delivered 17 points with nine rebounds to spark the Spartans. Chris Vickers added 15 points followed by Alex Taylor with 13.
The Spartans, coached by Jay Carlin, who surpassed the 800-career victory mark back in December, advance to the Class 4A state championship game, squaring off with No. 6 seed Landry Walker. The championship game is set for tomorrow night at 8 o’clock in Lake Charles. Carlin and his Spartans captured the Class 4A title back in 2009.
In last night’s semifinal game, Salmen came up clutch from the free throw line, canning 11-of-12 charity tosses to secure the victory.
