Salmen Spartans Finish Third
The New Orleans Advocate has posted its Boys Basketball Super 10 rankings. Class 2A champion Riverside (30-6) winners of their third consecutive title finish No. 1 in Super 10 rankings for the second straight year. Riverside hasn’t lost to an in-state opponent since falling to Scotlandville late in the 2013 regular season.
Landry-Walker (26-9) the Class 4A champion for the second straight year holds down the No. 2 spot. The Salmen Spartans (28-6) finish third after being edged by Landry-Walker 37-35 Saturday in the Class 4A championship game held in Lake Charles. Salmen, coached by longtime mentor Jay Carlin, a member of the 800-career win club, gave a valiant effort before being trimmed by the Buccaneers on a put back at the buzzer. Helen Cox (29-5) finishes fourth followed by Edna Karr (24-9). Rounding out the Super 10, St. Augustine (24-6) at No. 6 followed by No. 7 McDonogh #35 (23-13), West Jefferson (23-13) at No. 8 with Brother Martin (22-9) and the John Curtis Patriots (27-8) rounding out the New Orleans Advocate’s Boys Basketball Super 10 Rankings.
