Pierce Ties for Sixth
The 10th ranked LSU Tiger golf team earned a runner up finish yesterday in the outstanding field of 13 of the nation’s top teams competing at the Valspar Invitational held at Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Fla. The Tigers finished five strokes behind No. 2 ranked Florida State. The Tigers were led by sophomore Brandon Pierce, who finished tied for sixth place, firing rounds of 69-70-71 for a three-under par total of 210. Pierce, who starred at St. Paul’s, competing for the Wolves’, coached by Luke Barwick, cracked the Top 10 for the second time in his four starts this spring. Pierce closed out his best-career finish helping the Tigers’ to their runner up finish. Pierce’s previous best finish was a ninth-place outing last spring in the Louisiana Classics. Pierce’s final even- par round Tuesday, featured five birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey.
Pierce, who is an All-Academic SEC student is carrying a 3.875 GPA, majoring in Sports management. Brandon is the son of Chav and Rebecca Pierce, who reside in Covington.
LSU’s Ben Taylor tied for 11th at the Valspar Invitational, posting rounds of 71-69-71 for a 211 total at two-under par. Eric Ricard tied for 16th place, carding rounds of 67-74-71, a 212 total, finishing at one-under par. LSU golf is gearing up for the Texas A & M Aggie Invitational taking place April 4-5 at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. The Tigers and Aggies were co-champions at last year’s Aggie Invitational.
