St. Paul’s Wolves rugby team captured the Deep South Boys High School title Saturday in overtime defeating Archbishop Shaw 25-19 in in a hard-fought defensive struggle played at Pan American Stadium in New Orleans. St. Paul’s unbeaten at 9-0 in just their second rugby season, battled Archbishop Shaw, a two-time regional champion. The clubs were deadlocked 5-5 at the half before being stalemated at 10-10 at the end of regulation forcing overtime.
St. Paul’s coach Donald Hart said, “These young men played like warriors on both sides. It would have been easier to cut the trophy in half and both walk off the pitch with a piece.”
The St. Paul’s Wolves rugby side turned in a dominant unbeaten season scoring 231 points, while limiting their opponents to just 61 points. Congrats to the St. Paul’s Wolves rugby side the Deep South Boys High School champions!
