Archbishop Hannan softball coached by Becky Lambert is the only remaining St. Tammany Parish team still alive and competing in the LHSAA state playoffs. The Lady Hawks (25-6), the No. 4 seed in Class 2A blanked No. 13 Kinder 3-0 Saturday at home to advance to the quarterfinals of the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Fast Pitch 56 Tournament in Frasch Park in Sulphur, and will square off with No. 5 seed Holy Savior Menard this Friday at 2 o’clock. Holy Savior Menard downed No. 12 Delcambre 6-0 Thursday to advance.
In Saturday’s regional round home victory, Hannan’s Allie Hutton tossed a complete-game four-hit shut out, recording seven strikeouts without walking anyone. Hutton improved to 16-4 on the season heading into the quarterfinals. Hannan’s Lauren Wegener came through with a clutch two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning breaking a scoreless tie in a pitcher’s duel. Wegener’s key hit helped propel the Lady Hawks to the victory and she later scored on a wild pitch to close out the scoring. Hutton and Kennedy Martin also picked up hits. Hannan’s pitching staff has produced two quality shutouts in the opening two rounds heading into Friday’s quarterfinals. Jensen Volz hurled a two-hit shutout in the Hannan’s 10-0 five-inning victory over Lakeside in the opening round.
In Class 4A softball playoff action, No. 4 seed Lakeshore bowed out of the playoffs falling to No. 20 Cabrini 10-0 at home on Friday.
