Archbishop Hannan’s softball playoff run came to a disappointing end Friday in the state quarterfinals Fast Pitch 56 Tournament being held in Sulphur. The Lady Hawks, the No. 4 seed, squared off with a stiff challenge from No. 5 seed Holy Savior Menard, and were blanked 10-0. Holy Savior Menard’s Jensen Howell fashioned a no-hitter to close out the Lady Hawks season at 25-7. The Lady Hawks were hitting an impressive .404 on the season heading into the quarterfinals before being shutdown by Holy Savior Menard’s Howell. Holy Savior Menard went on to win the semifinal contest and then blanked No. 11 Winnfield 1-0 Saturday to win the Class 2A crown. Holy Savior Menard played long ball Friday plaing eight runs in the first two innings. Hannan head coach Becky Lambert, no stranger to the playoffs in Sulphur making it there six of her nine seasons with the Lady Hawks, said her team had a productive season. “We gained a lot of experience in Sulphur, and now we go back to work to prepare for next season.” The Lady Hawks graduate three seniors, Caitlin Collins, Katie Lauga and Bailey Tuminello.
Congratulations to Archbishop Hannan’s Becky Lambert and her Lady Hawks for making it back to the Fast Pitch 56 Tourney again this year. The Lady Hawks finished as the state runner up last season and captured two consecutive state titles in 2012 and 2013.
