Four LSU Tigers were selected in the NFL draft and five others signed free-agent contracts. The Tigers four draft selections included cornerback Jalen Collins (second round to Atlanta), defensive end Danielle Hunter (third round, Minnesota), linebacker Kwon Alexander (fourth round ,Tampa Bay) and running back Kenny Hilliard (seventh round, Houston). The four LSU draftees were the lowest number for LSU since 2005, when the Tigers had three players drafted. LSU had nine players drafted each of the two previous years. Five LSU Tiger players signed free-agent NFL contracts as of Sunday. Running back Terrence Magee with Baltimore, safety Ronald Martin with Seattle, fullback Connor Neighbors with Tennessee, center Elliott Porter with Cleveland and defensive end Jermauria Rasco with Green Bay.
Former LSU offensive tackle La’el Collins fell from a first-round projection to undrafted after news broke Tuesday that police wanted to talk to him regarding the shooting death last weekend of a pregnant woman. Baton Rouge police have said that Collins is not a suspect in the death of Brittney Mills, but his association with her caused NFL teams to shy away from drafting him.
Southeastern Lions QB Bryan Bennett, the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year, who rewrote the record books at SLU, signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Tulane defensive back Lornezo Doss was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round with the 164th overall pick. Doss, a second-team All-America selection in 2013, notched 15 interceptions in three seasons, and was the 17th cornerback selected in this year’s draft.
