The LSU Tigers, the consensus No. 1 team leading all the major polls, drew the No. 1 seed in the SEC Baseball Tournament, and is the undoubted favorite to win it again this year. LSU (46-9) finished as the SEC champions posting a 21-8 conference mark, winning the school’s 16th league crown. The Tigers battle with the unranked Auburn Tigers (35-22), who defeated the Kentucky Wildcats, 6-2 yesterday in the single elimination first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament played in Hoover, Ala. The Auburn Tigers will square off with LSU this afternoon with a 4:30 first pitch at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. Sophomore lefty Jared Poche’ (7-1) with a 3.18 earned run average gets the LSU start, hoping to regain some of his early season form. Poche’ has struggled in his last three starts, giving up 12 runs on 24 hits. The hottest LSU hitter entering the SEC tournament is Chris Chinea, who has ripped a team-high 11 homers in his last 29 games. Chinea collected six hits and drove in six runs in the Tigers final regular season series against South Caroline with LSU winning two of three from the Gamecocks, heading into the SEC tourney.
