Last hour, we unveiled the New Orleans Advocate’s 2015 Star Of Stars girls recipients from St. Tammany Parish. The biggest honor being garnered by Salmen graduate Kalani Brown being recognized as the Female Athlete of the Year. This time around, we’ll take a look at the boys winners. Riverside Academy basketball and football player Von Julien captured the New Orleans Advocate’s male Athlete of the Year honor after leading his team to their third consecutive Class 2A basketball crown.
Four St. Tammany Parish boys student-athletes were recognized for their achievements during 2015 being named as Stars of Stars. In soccer, St. Paul’s graduate Barrick Roberts helped lead the Wolves to their second consecutive Division I state soccer title. Roberts, who was named the Most Outstanding Player in the state championship 3-0 victory over Jesuit, helped lead his Wolves to an amazing unbeaten 31-0-3 season record. Roberts netted a team-high 28 goals and dished off for 14 assists.
St. Paul’s gymnast, Colin Skinner, who graduated this year, took first place in five of the six events to record a top score of 76.00 to claim the Division I championship. Skinner had his highest mark, scoring a 14.00 in the floor exercise.
In powerlifting, Covington grad Joshua Bickham led the way. Bickham a state and national champion lifter never lost a meet in his high school powerlifting career, setting numerous state records along the way. This year, he helped lead the Covington Lions to a state runner up finish, while the Lions also came home with a runner up finish on the national level. Bickham posted a total of 1,805 pounds this year winning the Division I state championship. Bickham squatted 635 pounds, bench pressed 455 and dead lifted 715 pounds.
Archbishop Hannan sophomore golfer Nick Daniel shot a 1-over 73 on both days of the Division IV state golf championship, earning a third place finish. Daniel helped his Hawks to a fourth-place team finish.
