The New Orleans Saints now have all nine of their 2015 draft choices under contract with the signing of first round pick Stanford offensive lineman Andrus Peat, the 13th overall selection in the draft. Peat’s rookie contract is fully guaranteed for $11.39 million. Peat secured a $6.5 million signing bonus. His base salary for his rookie season is $435,000 and his rookie contract includes a fifth-year option for the Saints, a standard option for all first-round picks that the team must exercise between his third and fourth season in the league.
The Saints open their Organized Training Activities today as they prepare to embark on the 2015 season with high hopes of turning around last year’s dismal 7-9 campaign. It still remains to be seen, but the Saints have had a successful draft at least on paper and all nine selections in this year’s draft are under contract and in the fold.
The Saints made a couple of really bold trades moving all-pro tight end Jimmy Graham and wide out Kenny Stills. Head coach Sean Payton has placed lots of confidence in two youngsters, Brandon Coleman and Seantavius Jones, who both signed as undrafted free agents last year, spending the majority of their time on the practice squad. Only time will tell when it comes to whether the two youngsters can provide depth and make contributions this season.
