From the City of Covington…
Covington LA : With the scheduled rehabilitation of a local bridge which crosses Mile Branch set to begin next week, the portion of W 25th Ave between N Taylor St and N Pierce St will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic until the rehab project is complete. Those who use this route to get to and from Pine View Middle School should utilize alternate routes, including W 21st Ave and W 23rd Ave to N Buchanan St.
The W. 25th Avenue Bridge Improvement Project was bid earlier this year. The City received three bids with the lowest bidder being Stranco LLC in the amount of $130,319.60.
The scheduled work consists of replacement of bulkheads and wing walls on the existing timber bent bridge, and the installation of new bulkheads, wing walls, tie-back piles, and other incidental work.
Stranco was issued a Notice to Proceed (NTP) with a project start date of Monday, September 14, 2015. The construction contract requires that the project be substantially complete within 90 days of the NTP.
Stranco expects to mobilize onto the job site next week dependent on weather.
