Update on Thor from the St Tammany Sheriff’s Office. Thor is a K-9 Officer stabbed while defending a deputy…

“We are so grateful for the outpouring of support for K-9 Thor. We have received calls this morning from literally around the world checking on him. The vet hospital has asked that callers refrain from calling them for updates, as their switchboard has been inundated this morning. Thor is in the middle of surgery now and we expect to have a media briefing with the doctor and the sheriff at 2:00 this afternoon. Thank you to everyone who has offered their support for K-9 Thor.”

“The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office asks for your prayers tonight for K-9 Thor, who was attacked and stabbed with a knife today during a pursuit of a burglary suspect.

K-9 Thor is in emergency surgery this evening and is receiving a blood transfusion due to the amount of blood he lost. Doctors are hopeful that he will recover.

The pursuit began this afternoon after a homeowner off Hwy. 1088 reported two individuals burglarizing her home. Deputies located the suspects’ vehicle and pursued them to an area near I-12 and Hwy. 59. One of the individuals was apprehended when the two bailed out of the vehicle. The other led deputies on an hours-long search. At approximately 4:30 this afternoon, K-9 Thor alerted to the suspect’s presence in a barn in a residential area. The suspect jumped from a pile of debris and attempted to attack one of our deputies with a knife. When K-9 Thor engaged him, the suspect then stabbed the dog in the shoulder/neck area. Deputies fired on the suspect, ending the threat. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Our prayers to all involved.”
